Feminists honor November 25 in memory of the Mirabals

The first Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Encuentro in Bogotá, Colombia, held on July 25, 1981, chose November 25 as a day to memorialize the fight against gender-based violence, pinpointing the anniversary of the Mirabal sisters’ assassination as its symbolic core. This initiative laid crucial groundwork for global awareness and formalized the date as a day of collective memory and protest against violence towards women.
