Became the first person to paddleboard across the Bering Strait from Russia to Alaska.
On August 1, 2013, Sonya Baumstein achieved a landmark feat by becoming the first person to stand-up paddleboard (SUP) across the Bering Strait. Starting from Big Diomede in Russia, she paddled to the Alaskan mainland north of Wales, covering this arduous route under extreme conditions. This first-in-history crossing demonstrated her pioneering spirit and paved the way for future exploration possibilities in the field of SUP and cross-border expeditions.
