Birth of Qiu Jin

Qiu Jin was born on 8 November 1875 in Xiamen, Fujian Province, during a period when China was under the Qing dynasty's rule. Born into a relatively affluent family, she was exposed to a comfortable lifestyle and received an education that was unusual for Chinese girls at that time. This early privilege would later provide her with the intellectual tools and the courage to challenge oppressive social norms, particularly those faced by women in China.
