Montessori conducts her first formal training course in 1909.
In the summer of 1909, Maria Montessori conducted her first formal training course in Città di Castello, Italy. This event, generally dated to June, marks a pivotal step in the formalization and dissemination of the Montessori Method. Over 100 students participated, learning firsthand from Montessori as she developed foundational materials and pedagogical approaches that would be used in her educational model. This training resulted in the drafting of notes which later formed her first book on scientific pedagogy. Through this course, Montessori not only educated a new cohort of teachers but also laid the textual groundwork for spreading her methods worldwide. The initiative faced the challenge of gaining acceptance in traditional educational circles, but its success demonstrated the value of scientific observation and individualized learning in childhood education.
