Lederberg’s first report on lambda bacteriophage, isolated from E. coli, was published.
On March 1, 1951, Esther Lederberg published her first report on the lambda (λ) bacteriophage in the Microbial Genetics Bulletin. She had isolated this bacteriophage from E. coli, establishing it as a fundamental model for studying genetic mechanisms in bacteria. This work laid the groundwork for understanding lysogenic cycles, which became a cornerstone of microbial genetics.
