Rope-solo Hasse–Brandler route on north face of Cima Grande di Lavaredo.
On June 25, 1999, Catherine Destivelle rope-soloed the Hasse–Brandler route on the north face of the Cima Grande di Lavaredo, arguably one of the most iconic rock faces in the Dolomites. Known for its technical demands and solitude, this route presents a significant mental and physical challenge.
Her ascent demonstrated not just technical skill and endurance, but also mental fortitude, further establishing her as one of the great climbers of her era. Such feats by Destivelle continued to break down gender barriers in climbing, showing what women, when resilient and determined, can achieve in even the harshest and most demanding of environments.
