Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine awarded for DNA structure discovery.
On October 19, 1962, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material. Although Franklin had passed away by this time, her meticulous work in X-ray crystallography at King's College was crucial to the discovery. Unfortunately, Nobel Prizes are not awarded posthumously, and she was not eligible for consideration.
