The University of Prince Edward Island conferred on Callbeck the title of Chancellor Emerita in recognition of her public service.
On April 11, 2024, the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) conferred upon the Honourable Catherine Callbeck the title of Chancellor Emerita, recognizing her long and active involvement in business, politics, and public service, as well as her many historic firsts and honours.
Callbeck had previously served as Chancellor of UPEI, a largely ceremonial but symbolically important role within the university's governance structure, representing the institution at convocations and public events. The emerita title honoured her sustained commitment to the university and the broader Prince Edward Island community over many years.
This recognition came more than three decades after her historic tenure as Premier and nearly a decade after her retirement from the Senate, illustrating the enduring nature of her legacy in her home province. UPEI's decision to grant her this honorary status underscored her continued relevance as a role model for women in leadership and public service, and it reflected the deep institutional and community ties she maintained throughout her long career, from her early education as one of the few women to earn a commerce degree at Mount Allison University to her multifaceted career in Canadian public life.
