On 4 May 2016, the New Zealand Science Learning Hub – Pokapū Akoranga Pūtaiao published an educational resource titled "Kindling Cracker," profiling Ayla Hutchinson's invention process and business development for use in school science and technology curricula.
This resource was significant because it formally incorporated Ayla's story into New Zealand's educational infrastructure, presenting her as a case study in applied science, engineering design, and entrepreneurship for students nationwide. The resource explained the physics behind the Kindling Cracker's lever-and-blade mechanism, as well as the design iteration process Ayla undertook with her father to refine the device for safety and manufacturability.
By codifying her achievement into curriculum-aligned teaching material, the Science Learning Hub helped ensure that Ayla's story would reach and inspire successive generations of New Zealand students, particularly girls who might not otherwise see themselves reflected in engineering or invention-focused role models.
The publication complemented an accompanying video resource and profile page from the same organization, together forming one of the most comprehensive and durable public records of her early achievement, used in classrooms well beyond the initial period of media attention in 2013–2015.
