After her mother’s death in 1922, the family moved to Salzburg. The Trapps were renowned for their musical talent, nurtured by their father and stepmother, Maria Augusta von Trapp.
In the 1930s, due to financial difficulties, the von Trapps began performing as a choir. Their talents were soon recognized, leading them to tour throughout Europe. The annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany in 1938 prompted the family to emigrate to the United States, where they continued to perform extensively.
